Exporting for PowerPoint, Google Slides and PDF: what stays, what changes

SMRT Slides Team · 4 min read

SMRT Slides exports .pptx files for PowerPoint or Google Slides, plus PDFs. Learn what stays intact and what to check after import.

PowerPoint and Google Slides use the .pptx export

We export the source slide object, not a rendered image, so the resulting deck is still editable in PowerPoint. Open the exported .pptx in Google Slides to edit and present there. Google Slides may change fonts, layouts, grouped objects or animations during import, so review the deck before your meeting. There is no direct Google Slides export.

PDF exports are flattened for sharing

  • PDFs are built for review and distribution, not for editing.
  • Embedded fonts are preserved where possible; otherwise the closest system font is substituted.
  • Speaker notes are excluded by default to keep the file focused on the page.

Know the limits before you export

Hard ceilings on slide count and file size are shown before generation starts. If a deck is oversized, you will know immediately rather than waiting for a half-rendered file.
