Cutting a two-day pitch deck down to twenty minutes

SMRT Slides Team · 7 min read

A practical walkthrough of the assembly workflow high-velocity sales teams use to respond to inbound opportunities the same day.

Where the two days actually go

When we time this workflow with teams, very little of it is design. It is hunting for the latest version, waiting on a colleague to reply, re-checking whether a number is current, and fixing formatting after a copy-paste between decks.

The twenty-minute pattern

  • Start from the shape of the story, not from a template — five to seven beats on paper first.
  • Search the library per beat and pull two candidate slides for each.
  • Assemble the draft before you polish anything. Order beats aesthetics.
  • Cut back to one slide per beat, then export and read it end to end.
  • Only customise the three slides the buyer will actually remember.

Keep the customisation shallow

Heavy per-deal editing is what pulls slides out of the library and back into personal drives. Customise the framing slides, keep the proof slides canonical, and your library stays trustworthy.
